In the spice jars of months, July is chilli At the height of summer it brings heat. the chance for warmth right through to bones. It is holidays, ice cream and no more school. Those shoulders drop without a care It is a time for reading and lazing Without worry about the diary and appointments and focus July is that month on the calendar that is the reddest but this one has been too much this one has been vicious and aggressive. This one has been unthinking and cruel. Day after day, the relentless climb of the temperatures Plants being burnt and shrivelled, having nowhere to shelter No sign of rain and the water too precious to waste. Like June, the month broke records that were not meant to be set It’s shouts were loud and overbearing. We can hear the message But when will we listen?
I have really been affected by these months this year. Maybe I will write about them all! Do you have a ‘job description‘ for each month, and have they followed it? Do share below
.

This July has indeed been cruel Julia I am hoping August will be kinder
I will have to ponder on job descriptions for months but I do remember this poem by Sara Coleridge
The Garden Year
January brings the snow, makes our feet and fingers glow.
February brings the rain, Thaws the frozen lake again.
March brings breezes loud and shrill, stirs the dancing daffodil.
April brings the primrose sweet, Scatters daisies at our feet.
May brings flocks of pretty lambs, Skipping by their fleecy dams.
June brings tulips, lilies, roses, Fills the children's hand with posies.
Hot July brings cooling showers, Apricots and gillyflowers.
August brings the sheaves of corn, Then the Harvest home is borne.
Warm September brings the fruit, Sportsmen then begin to shoot.
Fresh October brings the pheasant; Then to gather nuts is pleasant.
Dull November brings the blast, Then the leaves are falling fast.
Chill December brings the sleet, Blazing fire and Christmas treat.
Also now pondering about job descriptions for months... 🤔 You have captured this long hot July very well, aggressive is a good word.
