The Ordinary Beauty of Rain on Leaves
A poem about rain, leaves and the quiet art of noticing
The rain had only been light.
More like an April shower really
The garden and the newly planted were grateful for any moisture.
The season so far had been quite dry.
I glanced through the window of the conservatory,
to the exhausted that provided privacy clematis
The blossom that she had produced had been exuberant this year
Now she was shedding her petals, which were confetti when they were caught by the wind.
Now she was taking her rest.
My attention was caught by a bright green leaf
fresh with the rain
It appeared to be bouncing.
It was catching the rhythmic drips of water from the guttering- jump-pause, jump- pause, jump-pause
My mind immediately went to the scene in Bambi.
Which heralded an oncoming storm
The choir's song which built to a crescendo when the thunder rolled.
There was no choral singing to accompany my bouncing leaf.
Just an ordinary happening with an extraordinary moment.
This piece was written in response to Beth Kempton’s Soulcircle Journal Note ‘Ordinary’
